A siphon - also known as a gooseneck or water trap - is used as a stench trap to prevent unpleasant odours. It works as follows; water is held in the siphon where odours cannot get through. The siphon is 27 cm
A siphon is fixed between the basin and the sewerage system, so it actually acts as an odour filter.
